Transit: Compatible formats

Transit divides the project into a directory structure: the text to be translated is stored in one archive, and the format information for the original layout is in another. The translator always works in the same environment, independently of the format of the original archive. Transit creates a translation interchange format
in XML, independent of the original. The standard archive formats, text processors and publishing formats that are compatible with Transit are listed below.

Interchange format: TMX, universal format for interchange between translation memory systems.
Transit also offers:
•	Compatibility with the client's own formats
•	Integration of user-defined filters
•	Compatibility with any archive format based on ASCII/ANSI or Unicode (e.g. NROFF or TROFF)
•	Compatibility with any archive with a non-binary format
