STAR Campus: It's the context, stupid
STAR Campus: It's the context, stupid
How many translators does it take to change a lightbulb? Answer: it depends on the context! Jokes apart: as a translator, you know just how important context is. This STAR Campus webinar shows you how Transit deals with this issue.
How does context help me when I'm translating?
Translation memory systems work based on segments. The text to be translated is processed sentence by sentence or paragraph by paragraph. This is all very well, but it is only half the battle. At the end of this process, each translated segment again appears in the context of the entire document and must fit precisely into this context.
Thanks to its document-oriented approach, the TM from Transit automatically receives the full context for any segment. In addition, a whole range of functions display additional context so that you know exactly what you are using in your translation. This webinar explains which context information is offered by Transit and how you can use this information.
Agenda
To begin with, we will provide you with an overview of the viewers, which display the translation context in Transit. Taking a Word project as an example, you will see how Transit automatically creates PDFs, displays them in the integrated viewer and synchronizes them so that each line matches the segment perfectly in the Transit editor. Another example shows you the dynamically-generated preview for HTML projects. In the second part, you will find out how to research context in the translation memory and how you can use the document-oriented TM approach when translating. To conclude, we will show you how Transit delivers additional context information from the dictionary terminology and from the usage examples in the translation memory.
