Differences between translation and interpreting
Differences between translation and interpreting
The following diagram summarises the five main differences between translation and interpreting.
The next question that probably jumps to mind is which service to use for which case. Below we will outline some examples that may help you to select the right service.
Do you need to translate an installation manual, certificate, website, video, contract or marketing text? For each of these, you need to request a translation service. You should bear in mind that there are different types of translation, depending on the type of text that you need to translate. It is important to provide your translation service provider with the original documents that you need to translate, as well as all related information. That way they can select the translator and strategy that best meet your needs.
Do you have a meeting with a foreign customer who is thinking about buying a product from your company? Have you already sold a machine to them and need to organise a training session at your factory? In that case, you need an interpreting service. There are different types of interpreting as well, which is why it is again important that you provide as detailed information as possible to your interpreting service provider. They will thus be able to easily select the type of interpreting service that is most suited to the event.
