Professional English Spanish translation services*

We have been providing translations for our clients into Spanish since 1999. Spanish is not only the official language of the 46 million inhabitants of Spain, but it is also the most common mother tongue across the American continents. Globally, there are an estimated 523 million native speakers and 88 million non-native speakers. For this reason, and due to its role as the official language of numerous international organisations, Spanish is classed as a global language.

Translations into Latin American Spanish

Alongside European Spanish, which is spoken on the Iberian Peninsula and is also referred to as Castilian Spanish or just Castilian, there are numerous Latin American variants of Spanish, such as Mexican Spanish, Argentinian Spanish, etc. In certain cases, the terminological and semantic differences between these language variants are significant. For example, in European Spanish the term for tyres is “neumáticos”, whereas in Mexican Spanish the term “llantas” is used, which in European Spanish actually means “wheel rims”. If you would like to translate content into Spanish, you should therefore take into consideration in which country or region this content will be used. When deciding which Spanish variants to translate into, it is also important to consider the type of content, whether it is technical information on capital goods or rather marketing texts on consumer goods or services (see our page on sector-specific solutions).

Translations into International Spanish

When your content must be understood in both the Spanish and Latin American markets, we recommend that you translate into International Spanish, also referred to as Neutral Spanish. International Spanish is a constructed language variant, but one that is actually in use by international organisations and companies and which is, in theory, understood by all Spanish language speakers. The most important feature of International Spanish is the avoidance of so-called regionalisms (country or region-specific linguistic variants), as well as the avoidance of linguistic expressions that have negative connotations in different regions.

Adaptations from one variant of Spanish to another

If you have already translated your content into European Spanish and then decide to offer your products on the Latin American market, adapting this translation to the respective Latin American variant or to International Spanish is the most cost-effective way of localising your products or services for the respective country or region.
