Printing out Transit NXT files for proofreading

Printing out Transit NXT files for proofreading

In this tooltip, we shall see different options for printing segments. This is an extremely useful feature offered by Transit NXT for proofreading purposes. Sometimes you might want to send segments for proofreading to a reviewer who does not have Transit NXT. In such cases you can print the selected segments of the project and send them for proofreading.

Transit NXT offers the following options for printing segments:

  • Print all segments
  • Print a specified range of segments
  • Print only selected segments

In addition to these options, you can also choose to print either only source language segments or target language segments or both at the same time. Additionally you can print only those segments that contain notes. Let's explore the different print options! You can print out the file for proofreading on any printer installed in your Windows environment. You will have to configure various settings depending on the printer model. To do this, click on the Transit button and select Print | Settings. Transit NXT displays the Print setup window as shown in the screenshot below. Select the name of the printer and make the appropriate settings:

Now you are ready to print the segments. Click on the Print option in the Transit button to display the different printing options as shown in the screenshot below:

As you can see in the above screenshot, there are a lot of options available for printing segments. If you want to print only source language segments, place your cursor in the source language window and select the Print option from the Transit button. Do the same for printing target language segments by placing your cursor in the target language window. Select the appropriate option depending on the number of segments you would like to print (all segments, a particular range of segments or only selected segments). To print both source and target language segments, select the Segment pairs option. Transit NXT then prints the source and target language directly under one another for each segment. What's more! If you want to print segments along with their corresponding notes, select the With segment notes option. In some cases, you might want to print only certain segments. Consider the case of printing only those segments containing notes. In this case, you will have to filter the segments containing notes and then select the Print option from the Transit button. You might want to refer to our tooltip on filtering segments to understand how to filter segments. There are more options available which are self-explanatory. Let's briefly take a look at them: Select the option Page no. (restarts for each file) if you want Transit NXT to start the page numbering from scratch for each new file. Printing page numbers is quite practical because it might help the proofreader perform revision in an organized manner. The Revision bars option prints all segments that were not pretranslated or those that were pretranslated and changed manually. The Highlight dictionary entries option highlights the dictionary entries in the segments. You might want to print the protected segments to sometimes verify whether all tags are correctly inserted and nothing is missed out. Select the Print protected segments option to do so. If you want to send a softcopy of the printed segments to the proofreader, you can print the segments to a file, save it on your computer and send it via email. I hope this was an interesting tooltip. I invite you to try out the different printing options and use this feature offered by Transit NXT. Do not hesitate to send in your feedback or ask for specific tooltips.
