Short cuts – Nº 7 : Activating/deactivating automatic keyboard-layout switching
In this tooltip, we shall learn how to automatically switch between keyboard layouts while translating in Transit NXT. You may have defined several input languages in Windows to make it possible to enter text in different languages using the respective keyboard layout. The currently selected input language is indicated in the Windows taskbar as seen in the screenshot below:
While translating, you normally switch between the languages manually or by using the ALT + SHIFT shortcut. Transit NXT allows you to specify whether you want to automatically switch between keyboard layouts. This is very convenient if you need to switch between languages several times while translation. Let's assume that you are working on a Spanish (ES) to English (EN) translation project. If you specify the option for Transit to automatically switch between keyboards, Transit will automatically select the Spanish keyboard layout if you are in the source-language pane and English keyboard layout if you are in the target-language pane. Transit also automatically selects the corresponding keyboard layout while the cursor is in a dictionary entry in the Terminology window. To activate this option, select Edit | Miscellaneous | Automatic keyboard switch as shown in the screenshot below:
Please note that this setting only has an effect if you have installed several input languages: Transit NXT can only switch between languages that you have added. I hope you find this practical feature offered by Transit NXT useful. Do try it out! See you soon with another interesting short cut.
