Short cuts – Nº 20: How to add dictionaries to an ongoing project
Terminology Management the easy way: Whether you are a project manager, a translator or a terminologist, add TermStar dictionaries to a project on the fly, at any time.
It sometimes happens that you have already started a translation project before receiving the dictionaries and you then receive them at some stage during translation. With Transit NXT, it is very easy to add dictionaries no matter what stage of translation you are at. All you have to do is link the received TermStar NXT database containing the dictionaries, as we saw in our previous post. Then it is a simple one-step process to add a dictionary to the project.
There are two ways of adding dictionaries to a project. First, let's start by opening the translation project to which you wish to add dictionaries.
Method 1: Adding dictionaries via project settings
- Go to Project > Settings to open up the Project settings window.
- Go to the Dictionaries tab in the Project settings window and click on Add.
- Select one or more dictionaries from the Add dictionaries window and click on OK.
- This adds all the selected dictionaries to the project that is currently open.
If you wish to remove a dictionary from the current project, select the dictionary you wish to remove and click on Remove.
Method 2: Adding dictionaries via the Dictionaries option on the Resource bar.
- Go to Dictionaries > Open dictionary via the Resource bar.
- Select the dictionary/dictionaries you wish to add to the current project.
- Mark the Add dictionary to the current project option and click on OK.
You can go to the Project > Settings > Dictionary tab and confirm that the selected dictionaries have been added to the project.
Once the dictionary or dictionaries have been added to the project, the translation editor in Transit highlights the terms in yellow and shows them together with their target language equivalents in the Terminology pane, as shown in the image below:
You can use either of these two methods to add dictionaries to an ongoing project.
